A NEIGHBORHOOD WITH HISTORY

The church we know today as the Convent of Beato withstood the great earthquake of 1755. In 1834, with the Liberal Revolution, the temple came into the possession of the State, and was subsequently deconsecrated.
Later, the convent was sold to various individuals, one of whom was João de Brito, an industrialist who settled there, establishing a biscuit factory and cereal mill. The factory would eventually give rise to the Companhia Industrial Portugal e Colónias.
